When commercial beauty products prove to be futile to cure my under-eye wrinkles, I was left helpless and nervous. Helpless because I thought there was nothing that could help me; nervous because my eye wrinkles seemed more and more noticeable. Getting old is bad, but getting visibly old is worse.
Thankfully, I am not the kind of girl who would do nothing in the face of aging. My thought is even though I am getting old, I can still age gracefully by delaying the visible signs. There must be something that can help if I just look around. So, I dug around. I tried out different home remedies. Here are some that I tried and my comment on them.
- Egg whites: The improvement is way too temporary that I think it’s a waste of time to try at all.
- Milk and honey: The mix is good for brightening the skin. It only took me around two weeks to see the result. However, for reducing the under-eye wrinkles, it doesn’t work.
But don’t be disappointed. There are other home remedies that work. Below are two. Although they cannot completely eliminate my under-eye wrinkles, they do improve the way I look.
Potato and Honey
Ingredients:
- 1/4 raw potato
- 1/2 manuka honey
Method:
Grind the potato and mix the paste with honey. Use a spoon to squeeze out the juice. Soak a pair of disposable cotton eye masks into the paste. Apply the paper mask on to your eyes. Avoid getting any juice into your eyes. Leave it on for 20 minutes before rinse.
A tip on making this eye mask is to let the paste sit for a few minutes before you squeeze out the juice. According to my experience, it takes some minutes for any juice to ooze out of the potato.

For mild wrinkles, the result is immediate. My eye area looks brighter, and the wrinkles almost disappear for a satisfactory period of time. Of course, you have to use it regularly to see more improvement.
Virgin Coconut Oil
Ingredient:
- A few drops of virgin coconut oil
Method:
Clean your face before bedtime and leave it damp. Dab a few drops of coconut oil onto your under-eye areas. If you are anything like me, you can also apply the oil to your entire face. Some suggest massage the eye area for 5 to 10 minutes to help absorption, but I would prefer leaving the delicate eye area untouched.
How long does it take to work?
I scrutinized my face after the first few weeks of application and found only little improvement. Even that’s the case, however, I wouldn’t say coconut oil is futile. For one thing, my under-eye wrinkles have been here for years. I won’t expect it to be solved within weeks. For another, even though it fails to reduce the wrinkles, it does improve my dehydration lines. Compared to other eye creams I used, coconut oil produces, by far, the most satisfactory result.
Under eye wrinkles are my worst enemy. I need to make a greater effort on it if I want to beat them Is it even possible? I don’t know, but I will keep trying and experimenting. Which home remedies did you use for your under eye wrinkles? Does it work?
